Native and outstream video

Let more kinds of buyers compete for the slots you already have

A slot that only accepts banner only hears from banner buyers. Open it to native and outstream video demand from partners like Outbrain, Taboola and Teads, and the best-paying format wins each impression, with no new ad units and no new line items.

Why multi-format slots earn more

Native and video budgets are often separate from display budgets. When a slot accepts all three, those buyers bid on the same impression, and the auction picks the highest. The hard part is rendering each format well and counting impressions the way the buyer does, which is what this is built for.

  • Same slots

Native and video are requested alongside banner in the ad units you already run.

  • Templates that fit

Native ads adapt to the slot size, from a sticky strip to an in-article rectangle, and support right-to-left languages.

  • Viewable first

Outstream video only requests an ad once the slot has been in view.

  • Numbers that reconcile

Video impressions are counted on the VAST impression event, the same one SSPs bill on.

Native ads that look like they belong on the page

A native bid wins through the same key-values as banner, and the wrapper renders it with a template that lays out the image, headline and advertiser for the box it lands in. No new Google Ad Manager line items are needed.

  • Layouts that adapt to the slot, including small sticky strips
  • Right-to-left rendering for Hebrew and Arabic pages
  • A clear sponsored label on every native ad

Outstream video that counts impressions the way buyers do

A video that starts loading has not necessarily been seen. We count an outstream impression only when Google's IMA SDK fires the VAST impression event, so our numbers and your SSPs' numbers come from the same event.

  • The player waits until the slot has been continuously in view before it starts
  • No VAST is requested for a slot that never comes into view
  • The player adds about 4.4 KB to the wrapper; the IMA SDK loads only on pages that receive a video bid

How it works

  1. 1

    We pick the slots

We choose placements where native or video can compete with display without hurting the reading experience.

  2. 2

We open them to more formats

Native and video demand are added to those ad units, with templates and floors set per format.

  3. 3

You see what each format adds

Reporting splits revenue by format, so you can compare display, native and video in the same slots.

Talk to an expert

Valuad have made the unexpected. They have achieved to make us believe in miracles. After doubling our ad revenues once, and then once again, and then higher and then keep on improving - we started to believe that nothing is impossible, and all it takes is some pros with extra drive. We are now addicted to these guys' work, and the numbers are fantastic.

Questions publishers ask

Do I need a video player on my site?

No. Outstream video plays in an article slot using a lightweight player built into the wrapper. It does not need a video player of your own.

Is outstream video available now?

It is rolling out to publishers one placement at a time, starting with in-article slots where video and display compete on equal terms.

Do native ads need new line items in Google Ad Manager?

No. A native bid wins through the same key-values as a banner bid and the wrapper renders it.
